Keeping the desktop app up to date

It updates itself. What that looks like, and what to do if it does not.

The desktop app updates itself. There is nothing to download and no version to keep track of.

What you will see

When an update is ready, a banner appears in the sidebar saying so. Restart the app when it suits you and it is applied.

It is a banner rather than a dialog on purpose. An update that interrupts you mid-conversation to demand a decision is worse than one that waits until you have finished.

Nothing is lost on restart

Your drafts, your read state and your assignments live on the server, not in the app. Restarting is safe at any moment, and everything is where you left it.

If the banner never appears

Check you can reach the internet from the app, which is usually obvious because chats have stopped arriving too.

Check a corporate network is not blocking it. Updates come from app.talkfront.app. Some managed networks allow the sign-in domain and block everything else, which produces an app that works but never updates.

Reinstall from the apps page. A fresh download is always current and takes a minute. It is the fastest fix and there is nothing to migrate.

If it is managed by your IT department

On a locked-down machine the app may not be allowed to update itself. If you are more than a version or two behind and the banner never appears, that is usually why, and your IT team will need to push the new build.

Why staying current matters here

The panel and the server change together. An app several months old may be missing screens for features your workspace is already paying for, and an old build is the first thing worth ruling out when something looks wrong that looks right for everybody else.
